Discipleship in Schools

Book Club

Taking place during school lunches at George Washington Carver High School, book club is about introducing high schoolers to the truths of the Gospel in scripture. We do this through the reading of Kai’Ro: The Journey of An Urban Pilgrim, a book that chronicles the spiritual journey of a young man named Kai’Ro. Book club is also a time for students to ask questions, open up, and receive prayer.

Book Club meets almost everyday of the week during GWC’s lunch hour.

“These kids are hungry for truth, and the opportunity to share it with them during lunch at a public school is a blessing.”
Brooks Manley, Volunteer

Holistic Discipleship

Life Skills Academy (LSA)

Life Skills Academy is another ministry to the students at Carver High. The goal is to help students gain life skills as they develop not just spiritually – but holistically.

Our goal is to equip young people and teach them about emotional health, financial literacy, and physical health as they gain life skills to set themselves up to thrive after high school.

“I’ve learned how manage and invest my money, but more importantly how to help others rather than just focusing on myself. What I’m learning and gaining isn’t just for me, but for others as well.”
Eddie, Graduate

Training Body & Soul

Temple Fitness Training

Temple Fitness training is all about showing kids how to take the skills God has given them to glorify Him, while using their bodies to honor Him. As students train to excel in their sport, we help them establish their identity. We are children of God first, student athletes second.

We also use Temple Fitness to engage the community through camps and community events.

“Temple Fitness is an environment that encouraged me while improving my physical, mental, & spiritual wellness. I’m motivated to continue pushing forward in my wellness endeavors.”
Dewayne, Temple Fitness Athlete

Rest & Restoration

Camp Restoration

The goal of Camp Restoration is to give people a place of refuge and rest away from the city. It’s an opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle, and take some deep breaths while taking in God’s creation.

Camp Restoration is located at Percy Johnson Legacy Farm in Amite, where we take regular trips with students, friends, ministry leaders, and anyone who needs some R & R.

“The most peaceful I’ve ever been in my whole life.”
Erik McCoy, New Orleans Saints Center
